The Real Work of a Wedding Photographer:
It all begins the evening before. I make sure my camera and flashes are charged, ready to capture the next day. My SD cards are double-checked – empty and functional. I review everything discussed for the big day; it's a sort of ritual that reassures and prepares me for your special day!
The Morning:
On the morning of the wedding, it's time to pack my bags and dress according to the dress code. Not too fancy, as the stars of the day are the couple and the guests, but I consider colors to not stand out too much. I leave well in advance, always arriving early to make final preparations.
Upon arrival, I immediately seek out the couple, make a genuine connection, and explain that from the moment I turn around, they should act as if I'm no longer there. :) This ensures the most spontaneous moments. Then I always check the room, the light, and the other spaces where the couple will be, such as the ceremony and the reception venue. Mentally, I prepare my camera settings and any flashes, scanning the space to determine the best positions for capturing spontaneous and creative shots!
Dream Team:
If my husband, also a professional videographer, accompanies me, we constantly consult to ensure we're not in each other's shots and everything is perfectly coordinated. Together, we create the most beautiful visuals for the day!
Spontaneously Disappearing...
Occasionally, I sneak away from the festivities. You'll find me hidden in a room or a secluded corner, swiftly transferring files to the laptop. It's not just a necessity to clear the rapidly filling SD cards for video footage, but also my moment to stretch and breathe. With the 3 to 4 kilograms of equipment I carry for 10 to 12 hours, stretching and taking a breath is an absolute must!
Break?
Break? No, not until the evening meal, and with a bit of luck, a short break in between. Usually, I get to enjoy a meal from the dinner, sometimes in a quiet corner of the restaurant, sometimes in a separate crew area. Truly a moment to recharge, reflect, and prepare for the upcoming celebration!
And Then...
Once I have all the shots, I head home. Usually, I treat myself to a McDonald's milkshake to unwind. Though I enjoy being immersed in the festive atmosphere throughout the day, I appreciate the peace on the way back! I am and remain an introvert :)
Once home, I should go to sleep... I should sleep... but I'm too excited, and usually, my SD card is back in my laptop within 2 minutes of arriving home. Quickly organize all the images into one folder, and quickly (read: 1.5 hours) review the shots.
The Day After:
The next day, after a short night's sleep, I start editing the first images with a big cup of tea. First Lightroom, then Photoshop – double-check. Within 24 hours, I receive the first enthusiastic reaction from the couple, as they've also seen the initial images.
What days... but how wonderfully rewarding!
